Ranks and Titles

In the books there weren’t ranks within panther bands (tribes is an online word, they’re called bands in the books), and bands were only about 12 panther girls or less. Given the need for practical organizing and the much larger size/scope of our group, we have many ranked roles and often multiple people in various roles, because people log on at different times so by having multiple people in ranks we generally will have someone around who is of the rank and performs the duties of a particular role. The ranking sister is always in charge of the camp during RP.  When there are two sisters of the same rank online, the sister who has held the rank longest is considered the higher rank.

The order of tribe rank is as follows:
En, Se, Tor, En Healer, First Bow, First Spear, Elder, Fang, Claw, Blaze, Scout, Shaman, Healer, Head Slaver, Slaver, Prowl, Camp Trader, Sister, Cub

In addition, during raids or other times of combat, we have a modified ranking based on combat focus, so during raids or combat our rankings are:
First Bow, First Spear, Raven (only has ranking during combat), Blaze, En, Se, Tor, Fang, Claw, Scout, Prowl, Sister, Cub

-Healers do not have a military rank, but they are ranking on medical matters.
-Shaman does not have military rank, but she is ranking on spiritual and ceremonial matters.
-Slavers do not have military rank, but they are ranking on slave matters. Head Slavers also hold seats on council.

Valkyrie Torva Trail of the Sisterhood (Cub Test)

CUB OBJECTS:

The main goals of the cub test is to help ensure every cub has a minimum of skills needed so that she can be successful in combat. Not everyone is a good bow and some have really slow computers, but we want to make sure everyone has a fighting chance. Also, the better each of us are, the better we are together when we are in battle. We also want to reduce the type of mistakes in RP that might cause a dispute that will invalidate RP and involve a moderator being called to straighten things out. The less OOC disputes there are, the more everyone enjoys the RP.

Note: An En has the authority to waive some or all of the cub tests based on substantial evidence that the cub is competent in the areas tested below.

Be familiar with all of the following info:

Valkyrie Torva History (See Valkyrie Torva Panther Manual)
Valkyrie Torva Ranks and Roles (See Valkyrie Torva Panther Manual)
Anti-Lag Tips (See Valkyrie Torva Panther Manual)
Valkyrie Forest Rules (Go to Dock and get the latest Version)
RP Limits (See Valkyrie Torva Panther Manual)
Note: Tests can be completed in any order.

1. Clear your F-keys of silly SL gestures so they don’t conflict with weapons/fighting gestures.

2. An officer has to pass you on competency with your bow and your blades.
(An officer will test you on these, but you may also provide logs of RP downing with your hits, and logs of beating the Tarl once on the high setting, or twice on the medium setting.  An officer will judge if you are profficient, but that does not necessary mean you have to beat the officer to be promoted.)

3. Know how to RP binding a captive (3 lines minimum, 10 words a line),  revive them on the meter, put them on a captive device and take them off again all while still leashed. Search and disarm them.  (If you capture an enemy during RP and bind them and leash them, notecard it, and it will server as your binding test, or you may be tested by an officer.)

4. Know how to RP adding a sister or ally.  (2 lines minimum, 10 words a line). Be able to aid them on the meter to revive them.

5. Have at least two officers attest to your regular attendance in the sim.

6. Be knowledgeable in basic RP.
You may notecard your RP, or be tested on it by an officer. (Notecard 10 lines of emotes.  These can be 10 lines of emotes from any RP or combination of RPs.)

Note: Once you have been a cub in the tribe for at least one week you can request the cub test at any time you feel you are ready.  If you do not request the cub test, eventually an officer of the tribe will come to you to test as they observe you to be ready, and as time permits.

Path of the Blaze

Story of the Blaze

Back in the forests of Tharna the Torva started the honorary title of Blaze for their best fighters.  Some of the Blazes were legendary in their fighting skills, and other Blazes used their cunning to trick the enemy into traps or used stealth to flank the enemy and make them flee thinking they were under attack by a much larger force.  The arrival of a single Blaze would often turn the tide of a battle and leave the enemy in utter confusion as they scrambled for cover.

They were specially trained not only in the use of weapons, but in the of their minds. Their use of special combat tactics and quick thinking could be used to defeat another group of superior numbers or strength, or to defeat a fighter of much greater skills.

What a Blaze is Not

A blaze is not  a superbow who is dependent on super fast PCs or cheat HUDs. She is not on the GM’s Top Fighters list because she spends her day in large outlaw groups downing anyone in sight including unarmed slaves to increase her GM stats.  She should be a very good fighter; however, and she should be able to beat other very good fighters.

Requirements for Becoming a Blaze

The test for blaze currently consists of the Quest of the Seven Blades, which is actually a series of tests.

Note:  All tests must be documented and turned into Robin Dancer for review.  If a quest sends you to another sim, you are responsible for completing the quest following the rules of that sim.  For example, if the sim does not allow panthers, you may have to disguise yourself as a freewoman

Purpose of the Tests:  Not all the tests are designed to be impossibly difficult.  Some are designed to ensure that a blaze meets certain minimum requirements.  If you pass all the tests and are judged worthy of being a blaze, it is up to you to practice, spar, and fight well in battle and continue to prove yourself worthy in the eyes of others to hold the title of blaze.

Path of the Blaze

Quest of the Seven Blades – No one knows what this test is until it is taken and it may vary depending on the blaze candidate and her strengths, weaknesses, and fears.  It will generally consist of multiple parts or multiple tests.

Beginning the quest.  To be accepted for the  Quest of the Seven Blades you must obtain a tarn feather and log the RP of the acquiring the tarn feather.  You may obtain the tarn feather in any plausible RP way.  Once you have the tarn feather take it to the center of the stone circle in the Valkyrie Forest and use a small stone to weight it down.  You must also leave your name or your mark or a symbol of your identity next to the the feather and build a small fire next to it to signal your entry into the quest.  Send Robin Dancer the logs of acquiring the tarn feather and performing the ceremony in the stone circle.

Rescuing , Raiding and Flagging Guidelines

Rescuing , Raiding and Flagging Guidelines

Note: Make sure you have an IC and reasonable reason for flagging or raiding another sim.  Groups on our enemies list are reasonable to flag or raid particularly if there has been recent and ongoing RP with them.

1. Read the rules of the sim first.  If they do not allow panthers, move on.
2. In general, it should be safe to raid, steal from, or flag people on our enemies list, because they have raided or flagged us before or we have ongoing RP with them.
3. Read the rules regarding rescues if you are rescuing.  Make sure you follow any guidelines for time you have to wait to rescue from the sim the person was captured from. Usualy there is a wait of one or two hours.
4. Make sure there is no raiding ratio, or other rules limiting the size of the raiding party. Some sims also calculate the raiding party ratio by warriors that are not AFK, so AFK warriors and slaves may not count. A raiding ratio limits the number of raiders in relationship to how many defenders there are in the sim.  Some sims also require you schedule the raid 24 hours ahead of time so they can have defenders ready.
5. Avoid attacking cities.  You can sneak into cities and steal.  You can go into cities disguised as a free woman.
6. Do not raid or flag a city.
7.  In general raiding and flagging panther camps, outlaw camps, and small villages are ok as long as the sim rules allow it.
8. When raiding a sim or entering one where you might be forced to fight, check to make sure your weapons are legal in that sim. Swords are generally illegal in most sims for women.  Panthers can usually carry daggers, spears, and bows, but check that your make of weapon is allowed or the weapon itself is not banned on the sim.  Most GE sims will now allow 35% damage swords for panthers and outlaw women generally these sims accept scimitars or short swords of 35% or less.  BTB sims generally do not allow swords for women. Also, be aware that if you are disguised as a free woman, you probably will only be allowed to carry a dagger.
